#801 - Idyllic Four Season Lakeside Hideaway

Enjoy this lake house’s charm and tranquil setting, with open space and great views of Gunnison Lake, on the back side of Mount Sunapee.  Nicknamed “The Goshen Ocean” by locals, the lake is one of the state’s best kept secrets.  It’s great for swimming, canoeing/kayaking, fishing, birdwatching, or walking along the 3- mile Ruth LeClair Memorial loop trail that encircles it.  

The house, a red cedar, hexagonal, 1970’s time capsule is full of character.  Its main feature is an open, bright, large living room with a sunken living space in the center to gather around the fireplace during those cold New England nights.  An extra long wooden table can be used for eating, playing cards and doing puzzles all at once.  Tall windows and three sliding glass doors not only bring in lots of natural light, but also offer great views of the forested lake. While stepping onto the large wraparound deck, one will find a gas barbecue grill, a picnic table, sun umbrella and plenty of patio furniture, including rocking chairs. This is the perfect place to relax and take in stunning views of the expansive grounds and the trees reflecting on the lake.  An open kitchen, 2 bedrooms and a full bath complete the main floor of this house adorned with local crafts and ski mementos of yesteryear. Downstairs is another bedroom with a double and a single bed, a family room with outdoor games in the closet and a full bath, recently renovated with ample shower space and a new washer and dryer stacked. The family room opens to the outside and leads to a peaceful, cool sitting area below the deck, and vast grassy knolls where children can play endlessly. 

At the water’s edge is a red canoe and two kayaks that can be launched from this spot (with life jackets available).  A sandy beach for swimming is a short walk on the trail. Just beware of the sign in the middle of the lake requesting safe distance from the loons nesting on the other side. Please note that no motor boats are allowed which is well appreciated by the nesting loon couple that makes its home here seasonally.
On the grounds, there is ample parking in two areas: by the side of the house and in front of the garage. Each is served by a separate driveway from the dead-end Center Road that also doubles as a snowmobile trail in the winter.  This trail connects with other snowmobile trails and hiking trails for those interested in trekking up to Mount Sunapee or seeing the changing of the leaves around Lake Solitude in the Fall. The lake house is just 15 minutes from Mount Sunapee Ski Resort and the town of Newbury, and 20 minutes from Sunapee Harbor.

Things to know about our house:
Hello and welcome to our house. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do. Following are a couple of things to help you enjoy our home.
Counter-Top Appliances:  Using multiple appliances at the same time, that are connected to same power strip -i.e. microwave and toaster or toaster oven may trip the breaker.  If this happens, please simply reset the power strip and use one appliance at a time. The toaster oven is also a convection oven. 
Bathrooms: Because we have a septic tank, please only flush toilet paper down the toilets. Everything else must go into the wastebasket.  
Heating: There is zone heating throughout the house. In the wintertime, you will find that bathrooms and the downstairs area are set to 55 degrees, so that pipes don’t freeze. If you leave the house for some length of time, we ask you that you revert the thermostats back to this temperature but no lower. 
Cleaning Supplies: These are located in the kitchen closet, and the vacuum cleaner is in the coat closet just around the corner.
Long Dining Table: The table-top is not attached to the base and may shift if pushed/leaned on.  Please check periodically to see that it is aligned.  
Wine Fridge:  Please feel free to plug-in and use the wine fridge for your wines. 
Fans: There is a remote for the ceiling fan on the fireplace mantle, and there are standing fans in each bedroom that can be moved to the main living area, if you like. 
Television and Streaming Services: Roku is connected to our “Smart TV” with Netflix already set up and available to use. For other streaming services like Amazon, Hulu, etc., you can use your own personal account to login. Please logout of your accounts before you depart. 
Cellular and WIFI service: Cellular can be spotty at times depending on the carrier.  For WIFI calling, we find that Zoom works best.  WIFI is fiber (after June 14. 2022).  
Board Games and Books: Some board games and playing cards are available by the TV, as well as books located throughout the house for your personal enjoyment. Bocci Ball and Cornhole are located in the closet in the Family room downstairs. 
Fireplaces & Woodburning Stove: Winter Only - Please do not set fires in the fireplaces or in the wood burning stove without authorization and training provided.  Please contact Relax & Co. to schedule a training. To clean the glass, use Windex and paper towels or a damp cloth. For harder to remove residue, dip damp cloth in anshes and rub in residue. Please do not use anything more abrasive than this. 
Laundry Room: There is a stacked washer and dryer in the downstairs bathroom. Please be sure to empty the lint trap after every use.
Patio & Deck Furniture:  We hope you enjoy the patio furniture placed downstairs in the entry room for the winter and on the deck for the summer. If using it outside, please bring in the cushions in the evening and at the end of your stay.  A sun umbrella is also placed on the deck in the summertime. Because of the strong winds, this should be closed, wrapped and tied to the railing with the bungee cord when not in use. 
Red Canoe and Kayaks: You will find the canoe in the summertime at the water’s edge, locked to a chain wrapped around a tree. Two kayaks are also on the grounds for your enjoyment. Be sure to paddle safely across our peaceful lake by using the life jackets provided in the lower level family room.  When done, please be sure to use the chain to relock the canoe to the tree, return the kayaks to their original place and return the life jackets and oars to the house.
